Welcome to my hobby developer site! Come in, have a look around. Like many a busy academic or well-meaning engineer shackled to their desk in the bowels of a dystopian mega-corporation, this is where I sometimes write stuff if I wasn't so gosh darned busy. So don't be surprised if there are some rough edges. Or unfinished sent So, moving swiftly along. Lately I've taken to using Dropbox. It lets you synchronise your files with an online hard drive simply by moving files to a special folder on your PC, iPad or phone. Comes with a free handy public/private photo gallery view too. Sign up using my link and get a bonus of 250MB on top of your free 2GB of storage. Edit: turns out, dropbox is more insecure than they let on. Oops. For those concerned about the privacy of their data "in the cloud" there's tarsnap. But really, if you can't afford to have the world and it's dog reading your data, DON'T PUT IT IN THE CLOUD!!! I'm always on the lookout for some extra hard disk space. The best deal I've found at the moment is this Western Digital 2TB external drive (Amazon UK site). Everyone has a favourite and most hated disk manufacturer and WD is the target of my semi-irrational devotion. I've had 5 WD drives over the last 9 years and they are all still in use. Contrast that with my 500GB Seagate drive which burned a lot of data on me after 1 year of operation. I'm sure there are people who have had the exact inverse experience but WD works for me ;) I bought my gf a Kindle! The amazon UK site wouldn't ship it to her so I bought it off the american site who were only to happy to ship it half way round the world to her, then ship it back kostenlos when the screen broke after it gently drifted 2' down to a carpeted floor. It is a truly awesome little ebook reader but do not let it fall or jar the screen in any way shape or form: it may be resistant against scratches but NOT against shocks. It was an annoying situation but the device itself is great and the customer service was beyond reproach. I'd buy a cover next time though! |
